We weigh in on the debate about “Die Hard” being classified as a Christmas Movie

Is Die Hard a Christmas movie?
For me, the debate centers on Christmas as a time of year versus a movie who's plot relies on the holiday itself.
I love Die Hard and even liked DH2. The other sequels have melded into on big action flick muddled in my mind. One day I'll have to catch up with some of the later films. But, for now, it's Christmas time again and Die Hard is definitely in rotation as we long for another romp around Nakatomi Plaza. Along the way we'll also mix in A Christmas Story and A Charlie Brown Christmas.

As for it's classification, I've never considered Die Hard a "Christmas movie". We call it a holiday tradition. I can't imagine the Christmas holiday with out it, but the "Xmas" classification belongs to films whose plot relies on the holiday, rather than just a setting. Hans' robbery plan could have taken place any other time of year.

We adore Die Hard and we include it with Christmas, but we do so out of tradition, not an inherent Christmas spirit.

However you view Die Hard, we hope you keep John & Holly in your thoughts and put this film in your Christmas rotation. Above all else, crank it up when Argyle puts on RUN DMC's "Christmas in Hollis"!
