As Stranger Things 3 arrives on Netflix, I'm still OK with being a year behind

Stranger Things fake VHS cases
I don't have Netflix, so I'm a year behind and buy the DVD releases in those snazzy faux-VHS cases.
Not having Netflix set me back, time-wise, on viewing this amazing series. Absolutely loved it. Still didn't subscribe to Netflix. Having missed the first two seasons, I picked up those cool DVD releases in the fake VHS. Once again Stranger Things is being released today and I'm still not too interested in Netflix... or streaming movies in general.

Binge watching always came after a show's run. How did this flip?
I'vd said this before, but I don't understand binge watching tV shows upon initial release. For me this binge concept came after the weekly released shows were released in physical format. I loved watching shows like Miami Vice and La Femme Nikita.

Binge watching these shows years later is awesome. Binge watching when a series is first shown? I don't get that. I love the weekly cliff-hangers that excited me to tune in the following week on TV. So, binge watching after the initial run makes more sense to me. Thus, I don't get the appeal of watching Stranger Things 3 all at once.

I just watched the second season a few weeks ago, but I can wait a while to see the third season. If they do another VHS-style DVD release, I'll gladly snag it. The internet has trained us to crave instant gratification. Do we need an entire season of a TV show all at once? Can no one wait? People no longer have enough patience to watch weekly? I guess it all began with time-shifting shows on VCRs which progressed to DVR and now we stream shows and movies at will. It's not for me.

I love the weekly breaks and watching shows in real time. Each night features a show I look forward to seeing. If I can watch things any time I want, TV would be like my book and video game schedule - piled high! I guess I'm still attached to the good old days when you had to be there to see it.
