The Terminator Resistance video game is coming to consoles and PC as Dark Fate hits theaters

With James Cameron behind the next Terminator film, we hope to see many more tie-in products!
It's been a while since we had a terminator video game that spanned the available gaming hardware. My son and I still play Terminator Salvation on the PS3, but we'd love a new game based on the franchise! It looks like Terminator Dark Fate, with the story by James Cameron, is going to make a bigger splash than recent Terminator films. The film arrives November 1st and the video game, Terminator Resistance, will launch for PS4, Xbox One, and PC on November 15.

We hope Dark Fate will inspire lots of tie-in merch!
The film's story begins where Terminator 2 left off. The game, developed by Teyon is more of a mystery. It's a single-player first-person shooter and presumably follows the plot of Dark Fate. It takes place in post-apocalyptic Los Angeles 31 years after Judgment Day. A new hero and a new threat from Skynet.

The Terminator series got off to a strong start, but went in a wide variety of directions as it crept forward. Everyone had their own notion about the story line and how to bend time to make the next film palatable to movie audiences. James Cameron led the charge directing the first two films. With his return comes new hope that the Terminator series will live up to its initial glory. I've enjoyed the subsequent films, but the first two are strong favorites.

With both Arnold Schwarzenegger and Linda Hamilton returning, I'm excited. But my excitement extends beyond what I hope will be an awesome film. I"m hoping it will spark the toy and game industry to pack retail shelves with merch. The last few films have left toy store shelves empty of Terminator and John Connor figures, ships, and vehicles. I'm hoping this will change!

The launch of Terminator Resistance is a good sign that there is interest in tie-in ventures for the film. At the same time, it feels this was a recent decision and the game may have been rushed to launch while the film is in theaters. The game's trailer is very reminiscent of the last Terminator game I've played, based on the Salvation film, on PS3.

It's exciting to have James Cameron involved with the film and perhaps that will bolster faith in box-office revenue that might spill over to buying Terminator toys and games. I know I"m down for some new action figures and vehicles... and a Switch game.
