Animal Crossing New Horizons couldn't have come at a better time and GameStop went all in

Animal Crossing New Horizons
Sales for Animal Crossing on Switch show just how much we needed this game to combat the coronavirus shutdown. Is this why GameStop insisted on staying open?
Sales figures are pretty crazy for Animal Crossing New Horizons. With the current state of the world, it may have to do with folks being quarantined to their homes and desperate for something cool to passy the time. Animal Crossing to the rescue!

While it's been a popular Nintendo franchise, this release for the Switch is beating almost all records for the platform. This makes me wonder if GameStop's defiance of all the coronavirus shutdown orders and zany claims of being an "essential business" was a ploy to get through the launch weekend of Animal Crossing. With their fragile financial status, it wouldn't be too surprising to discover they wanted to capitalize on this popular title at the brick and mortar level. I'm sure Amazon shipped more copies than gamestop.com.

I'm working from home, as are many of us. I feel very fortunate to be able to work from home in light of the millions who have been laid off in the wake of this virus. I've loved Animal Crossing on my 2DS, but haven't bought the Switch release yet. Now is an excellent time to have a game like this. It's good naturedness is just what I need in these unsettling times. I'll get it eventually, but wish I had it now!
