I still like to read Game Informer for new titles, but I can't resist the allure of 8-bit retro gaming

Old game carts full of retro goodness excite me much more than most modern video game experiences.
Game Informer retro You needed a pretty keen sense of imagination to believe a small cluster of pixels was a mighty spacecraft on a mission to defend the galaxy. But we all made the leap. We believed. Our imagination, with a boost from the game's manual, put all those pixels in perspective and we knew the battle was on.

As video games became more like movies we began to deal with cut-scenes where control would lapse and we could reach for another handful of chips. You didn't have that luxury in a game of Berzerk!

These days we seem to be controlling characters through scenes coming very close to movies. Photo realism has come a long way.

While I love new games and technology, Few things beat a good game of Missile Command or Defender! There's something magical about those enemies represented by batches of pixels that still raise my blood pressure when the close-calls are fast and frequent.
