As Trump's circus invades Washington, the real one is closing due to the economy

Ringling Bros' "The Circus Wants The Circus Back" campaign was brilliant during election season. It's sad to see them close down.
As a child, we went to see the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus every year in Washington DC. I still have vivid memories of sitting in the stands and watching the mayhem unfold. With child-like wonder, I had no idea all that mayhem was part of a well-oiled machine that had entertainment down to a science. It is the greatest show on Earth!

News is rushing through social media about the economy finally taking it's toll on this entertainment giant. On January 14, the CEO of Ringling Bros. parent company released a statement regarding the show's closing in May of 2017. "The decision to end the circus tours was made as a result of high costs coupled with a decline in ticket sales, making the circus an unsustainable business for the company."

Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey - the real circus Ringling Bros. provided amazing entertainment and it was passed from generation to generation. Kids grew up and took their kids to see the circus. There's really nothing quite like it!

Taking Back The Circus

But there's another side to the circus - or at least the word "circus". During the recent presidential campaign, the US (and the world) saw things happen that are unheard of in any election. The media likened the whole affair to being a circus. That word has somehow become likened to disarray and chaos. However if you've seen a Ringling Bros. show, you know it's intricately crafted.

The Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus had enough and launched "The Circus Wants The Circus Back" campaign. Fed up with political antics overtaking the notion of a circus, Ringling Bros. set out to set the record straight. This was spot-on the best idea ever - the circus demanded to be removed from the idiocy that is our election process. Can't blame them - who'd want to be associated with that nonsense?

The Circus in Video Games

Curious to see how much circus I could find in my own video game collection, there were two clear standouts.

Who could forget 1980's Circus Atari - the simple but fun game of popping square ballons via paddle-controlled clowns on a teeter-totter? It's a pretty fun game and the precision with the paddle controllers is quite good!

in 2009 2K Games released the branded, Ringling Bros and Barnum & Bailey Greatest Show on Earth for Nintendo's Wii console. While compatible with the balance board accessory, it doesn't quite replicate the excitement of the real deal.

Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey - the real circus Kristen Michelle Wilson, Ringling Bros. First Female Ringmaster Check out Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey's tour schedule and see if they're coming to ta town near you. It's a great show and something the whole family will enjoy. It's way better than Circus Atari. See them while you still can!
