Dynamite's first Atari comic book, SwordQuest issue 0, released May 3rd for only 25¢
Peter Case was a boy on a quest to win the prizes from Atari's SwordQuest challenge! Now, as an adult, his obsession with SwordQuest is reignited!
Released in 1982 Atari's SwordQuest was the first video game to offer players substantial real-world prized if they could solve all of the puzzles. It was to be a 4-part series of conquering various worlds. The franchise was canceled before the 4th installment was released, leaving fans in the lurch. The comic book series uses this real-world tale as its inspiration, telling the story of SwordQuest super-fan Peter Case.
Down on his luck Peter moves back in with his mother, but discovers she kept Atari VCS and his passion for SwordQuest comes back to him. Written by Chad Bowers and Chris Sims (X-Men '92, Down Set Fight) and art by Scott Kowalchuk (Batman '66, Down Set Fight). I'd heard about Dynamite brining some Atari video game titles to life via comics and it's cool to see the first issue on shelves.
It's a bargain at only 25¢ and free on Comixology (as of this writing). We're looking forward to the upcoming releases as well as Centipede - all from Dynamite Comics.
