The current holding comany of the infamous Atari brand decided to bring the iconic brand back into the home gaming aarena by rebooting a modern version of the original Atari 2600, launched in 1977. They crowd-funded the Atari Box to $3 million dollars, then changed the console name to the Atari VCS. The campaign launched in May of 2018. Plagued by delays and poor marketing communication, the console did not begin shipping to indiegogo backers until late December of 2020.
